Notes & justification
The Shāṭibiyyah verses behind the rhyming alif endings of this sūrah (the lemma pairs ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ with لِلْيُسْرَىٰ, a rhyme without and with a rāʾ). Among what Ḥamzah and al-Kisāʾī give imālah are the āyah-endings of a list of sūrahs, al-Shams and al-Aʿlā among them. Warsh reads the alif after a rāʾ bayna bayna (taqlīl), and he also reduces the fatḥ of the rhyming āyah-heads to taqlīl. And whatever the pattern, the fuʿlā forms and those āyah-endings are read by the Baṣran (Abū ʿAmr) with taqlīl — except the ones with a rāʾ, which he raises to full imālah. Hence ق for Warsh and Abū ʿAmr's two ruwāt on ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ, and م for all of them on لِلْيُسْرَىٰ except Warsh.
And among what the two (Ḥamzah and al-Kisāʾī) give imālah are the ends of the āyāt of … (the verse is cut short in the print).
… in al-Shams and al-Aʿlā … (the list of sūrahs whose āyah-ends are so read; cut short in the print).
And (the alif) with a rāʾ Warsh reads between the two (taqlīl) …
But the āyah-heads — their fatḥ has been lessened for him (Warsh) …
However faʿlā (fuʿlā, fiʿlā) comes, and the āyah-ends of what went before, belong to the Baṣran (with taqlīl) — except their rāʾ-forms, which rise (to full imālah).
