How many verses are in a sūrah?
There is no single answer — and that surprises most people. The Qurʾānic text is identical in every one of the ten readings. What differs is where a verse is judged to end. Six transmitted systems of ʿadd al-āy disagree on those boundaries, and each travels with the readers of its region.
Al-Fātiḥah is the textbook case. Everyone counts seven. But the Meccan and Kufan schools count the basmalah as verse 1 and run ﴿صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ﴾ as one verse; the Medinan, Basran and Damascene schools do the opposite. Same words, same order, seven verses either way — drawn differently.

Where this data comes from — and what is missing
No machine-readable table of per-sūrah counts across all six systems appears to exist publicly. This one is being compiled from the opening prose of each sūrah in al-Basṭ fī al-Qirāʾāt al-ʿAshr, where the author states the ʿadd differences before the verse tables begin.
The Kūfī column is complete for all 114 — it is the King Fahd Complex muṣḥaf numbering this whole edition is keyed to. The other five columns are filled in as transcription reaches each sūrah: 1 of 114 so far. A dash means not yet collated — it does not mean the count matches Kūfī.
