Brief pause
سالسكت
al-sakt
A momentary silence — long enough to separate two sounds, short enough that the breath is not renewed. Used before a hamzah by some readers, and by Abū Jaʿfar on the detached letters that open certain sūrahs.
Example
الٓمٓ
al-Baqarah 2:1
Abū Jaʿfar pauses briefly on each letter name rather than running them together.
